Retail Merchandiser Job Responsibilities
- Plan and execute merchandise displays that are customerfriendly and promote sales.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the sales floor and stockroom.
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate needs to store management or corporate office.
- Assist customers with purchasing decisions, product questions, and returns/exchanges.
- Stay upto-date on current trends, seasonal merchandise, and promotions.
- Complete all required reports in a timely manner (e.g., daily sales report, planogram compliance report).
- Adhere to company policies and procedures at all times
Objectives
- To develop and execute merchandise plans that align with the overall store strategy while maximizing sales and profits
- To create a visually appealing and cohesive store design that is reflective of the brand identity
- To oversee all aspects of product merchandising including but not limited to: product selection, inventory management, pricing, promotions, display planning, etc.
- To collaborate closely with other members of the retail team such as buyers, planners, Visual Merchandisers, Store Managers, etc. to ensure all merchandise plans are executed flawlessly
- To stay up-to-date on current trends within the fashion industry and understand how they can be applied to merchandise assortment and visual presentation
Retail Merchandiser Job Skills & Qualifications Needed
- A retail merchandiser typically needs at least a high school diploma, although some jobs may require postsecondary education, such as an associate's degree in fashion merchandising or a related field.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are essential for success in this role.
- Retail merchandisers should also be creative and have an eye for detail to be able to effectively display products.
- Some employers may prefer candidates with previous experience working in retail or a related field.
