The DSP also provides guidance and assistance with activities of daily living, such as personal care, meal preparation, and transportation. In addition, the DSP advocates on behalf of the individual and assists with community integration.

Direct Support Professional Job Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care and support to clients with developmental disabilities
  • Assist clients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, eating, and toileting
  • Monitor client health and well-being, report any changes to supervisor
  • Facilitate client participation in community outings and activities
  • Document client progress and behavior
  • Provide transportation for clients to appointments or activities as needed
