Quantity Surveyor Job Description Template
A Quantity Surveyor is responsible for measuring, costings and estimating construction projects. They work with architects, engineers and contractors to ensure that projects are completed within budget and on time. A Quantity Surveyor must have excellent mathematical skills, as well as the ability to read and interpret blueprints.
Quantity Surveyor Job Responsibilities
- To act as the main point of contact with clients for all commercial matters on a project
- To develop and agree the project commercial strategy with the client and Project Manager
- To prepare cost estimates for all stages of the project
- To value completed work and variations during the course of the project and agreeing these with the contractor
- To prepare monthly reports for the client detailing costs incurred to date and forecast final costs
- To negotiate, agree and administer subcontractor contracts in line with company procedures
- To monitor, control and report on project cash flow on a regular basis
- To attend site meetings as required
Objectives
- To manage and oversee all aspects of the quantity surveying process on construction projects, from feasibility through to completion.
- To liaise with clients, architects, engineers and other professionals to ensure that the project is delivered within budget and to the required specification.
- To prepare cost estimates for new construction projects and monitor costs throughout the project lifecycle.
- To value completed works and agree final accounts with contractors.
- To undertake cost benefit analysis of proposed changes during the course of a project.
- To provide expert advice on procurement strategies, contract types and risk management issues relating to construction projects
