Interior Designer Job Responsibilities
- Create, develop, and manage conceptual, schematic, design development and construction documents for product, residential, and commercial projects
- Maintain design standards, scope, and budget
- Work closely with architects and engineers on design, materials, and construction
- Plan and document design related activities and prepare technical reports
- Research, develop and maintain knowledge of design trends, construction materials and methods
- Maintain design database
- Attend and present at internal and external design conferences
Objectives
- Develop, update, and amend plans, specifications, drawings, and other data pertaining to interior design projects
- Manage, coordinate, and schedule the work of professional, technical and clerical personnel involved in the design and construction of building interiors
- Conduct market analysis to determine client needs and preferences, and use this information to develop appropriate designs
- Plan and supervise the coordination of work, materials, and schedules for interior design projects
- Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate the work of interior designers and architectural technicians
- Provide administrative and technical support to architects, designers, and other employees
- Develop and maintain knowledge of building codes, floor plans, furniture, appliances and fixtures, and interiors design
- Manage projects from concept to completion
- Promote, update, and maintain interior design standards and specifications
- Update building codes and standards as necessary to conform with changes in interior design
- Design spaces to include furnishings, fixtures
Interior Designer Skills Needed
- Bachelor’s degree in interior design, architecture, or related field
- 2+ years’ proven experience in design, construction, or project management
- Excellent knowledge of construction methods and technologies, and ability to interpret technical drawings and contracts
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Ability to accurately estimate time
