A Drywall Finisher is responsible for the installation of drywall panels and the finishing of drywall surfaces in residential and commercial buildings. They measure, cut, fit, fasten, and finish drywall sheets using taping and mudding techniques. They may also install metal or wood framing, insulation, acoustical ceilings, and exterior sheathing.

Drywall Finisher Job Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints or other instructions to determine the best way to complete a job.
  • Install metal or wood framing, drywall sheets, or other materials to create walls or ceilings.
  • Use trowels, knives, or other tools to apply joint compound or plaster to fill in gaps between pieces of drywall or woodwork.
  • Smooth out rough surfaces using sandpaper, brushes, or other abrasive tools.
  • Tape over joints between pieces of drywall using paper tape or fiberglass mesh tape.
  • Apply successive layers of compound until the desired smoothness is achieved.
  • Prime and paint finished surfaces as necessary
