CAD Operator Job Description Template
The CAD Operator will be responsible for the creation and modification of engineering drawings using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software. They will work closely with engineers and other professionals to create accurate 2D and 3D drawings of mechanical components, assemblies, and systems. The CAD Operator will ensure that all drawings meet industry standards and specifications. They will also maintain drawing files and archives.
CAD Operator Job Responsibilities
- Convert engineering drawings and sketches into precise computeraided design (CAD) files.
- Work with engineers and drafters to ensure that designs meet requirements.
- Operate CAD software to generate 2D or 3D models of buildings, bridges, machines, components, and other structures.
- Revise existing CAD files to incorporate changes requested by engineers or clients.
- Generate assembly instructions, bill of materials, and other documentation for use in manufacturing process planning and execution.
- Use specialized CAD tools to perform stress analysis, heat loss/gain calculations, and other engineering simulations.

Objectives
- To produce drawings and models to specified tolerances, according to engineering specifications and design intent.
- To create 2D or 3D drawings of parts, assemblies, and buildings using computeraided drafting (CAD) software.
- To ensure that all drawings and models meet the required standards for quality and accuracy.
- To revise existing drawings and models as necessary, in response to changes in engineering specifications or design intent.
- To maintain accurate records of all revisions made to drawings and models.
- To provide support to engineers and other professionals as needed, in regards to CAD matters.
CAD Operator Job Skills & Qualifications Needed
- The skills and qualifications needed for the role of CAD Operator include:
- A minimum of 2 years experience in using CAD software (Autodesk AutoCAD, Revit, Bentley Microstation, etc.)
- Able to produce high quality drawings and models according to specifications
- Excellent attention to detail
