A Mold Maker creates and repairs molds used in the production of metal parts. They operate machines to cut, grind, and polish mold surfaces. They also use hand tools to make or repair molds.

Mold Maker Job Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints or engineering drawings to determine mold designs, required materials, dimensions, and tolerances.
  • Select the appropriate type of molding material based on the product specifications and production requirements.
  • Cut, shape, and assemble mold parts using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment.
  • Install heating elements or cooling lines in molds to regulate temperatures during the molding process.
  • Melt raw materials such as waxes or plastics to prepare them for injection into the mold cavity.
  • Inject molten material into the mold cavity using a hydraulic or pneumatic press; remove excess material from the sprue or runner system; cool and eject molded products from the cavities.
  • Polish finished molded products to remove any imperfections before packaging or shipping them to customers
