Machinist Job Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain a variety of computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and other technical data to determine methods, sequences, and operating parameters for producing precision metal parts on CNC machines.
  • Plan the sequence of necessary operations to fabricate each product in accordance with specifications, using knowledge of shop mathematics and layout techniques.
  • Calculate dimensions or tolerances using measuring instruments such as micrometers or calipers.
  • Select the appropriate tools, attachments, materials, or work aids according to the requirements of the machining process.
