Fabricator Job Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine the best way to cut, shape, and assemble raw materials
- Operate power tools such as saws, drill presses, grinding machines, and welding equipment
- Make precise measurements using calipers, micrometers, steel rules, templates, and other measuring devices
- Cut materials using power saws or hand tools such as hacksaws or snips
- Bend or shape materials using hand tools or power tools such as brake presses or roll formers
- Assemble materials using bolts, screws, rivets, welding equipment ,or adhesives
Objectives
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine the best methods for fabricating metal products
- Set up and operate various machines to cut, bend, punch, drill, or otherwise form metal components according to specifications
- Assemble finished products using welding, bolting, riveting, or other fastening methods
- Examine completed workpieces to verify conformance to specifications and identify any defects
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment and machinery
- Keep accurate records of production data
